Business overview

Founded in 1970 by Malcolm Walker, executive Chairman, Iceland Foods is a UK based national food retailer. As at 31 March 2019, it had an estate of over 940 UK stores mainly in convenient high street locations and 90 larger format Food Warehouse stores mainly in out of town retail parks. Iceland is best known for its frozen food offering where it has a 15.9% share of the UK frozen market; second only to Tesco – source: Kantar Worldpanel 12 weeks ending 19 May 2019, which accounts for around 40% of its sales, with the remainder split evenly between chilled food and grocery. Iceland targets value seeking families, providing a compelling ‘value for money’ proposition. Free delivery is offered to in-store customers spending in excess of £25. An online service is also available throughout the UK, with free delivery to customers spending at least £35. Delivered sales (both in-store and online purchases) regularly exceed 200,000 deliveries per week. The Food Warehouse concept, launched in 2014, continues to expand successfully and the ongoing Iceland refit programme is transforming stores and revitalising growth.
