Business overview

Founded in 1970 by Malcolm Walker, executive Chairman, Iceland Foods is a UK based national food retailer with over 880 stores mainly in convenient high street locations. Iceland is best known for its frozen food offering (16.8% share of the UK frozen market; second only to Tesco – source: Kantar Worldpanel 12 weeks ending 26 Mar 2017),which accounts for around 40% of its sales, with the remainder split evenly between chilled food and grocery. Iceland targets value seeking families, providing a compelling ‘value for money’ proposition. Free delivery is offered to in-store customers spending in excess of £20. An online service is also available throughout the UK, with free delivery to customers spending at least £35. Delivered sales (both in-store and online purchases) regularly exceed 200,000 deliveries per week. The chain of larger stores launched in 2014, mainly in retail parks, under The Food Warehouse fascia continues to expand. The new Iceland store concept is planned to be rolled out to further parts of the UK, predominantly in London.
